Hello, I’m Lisa Brusca, and it is a privilege to greet you as the new Hub Manager for the Wheels4Hope Triangle Operations. I’m excited to be a part of this mission that has provided needed transportation, changing over 2,500 lives in the last 15 years. In my first few months at Wheels4Hope, I've had the distinct pleasure of attending several wonderful car blessings; all special and amazing in their own right. One story made a memorable impact on me, which I share with enthusiasm every time I speak about the terrific mission of Wheels4Hope.I initially met Michael at orientation in January. To be invited to orientation, Wheels4Hope must have accepted an application turned in by one of Wheels4Hope’s Partner Agencies. Michael was referred to us from Emmaus House in Raleigh. I met a quiet and humble man that morning, and his story stuck with me. Michael had been without a car since 1983. To get around, he was relying on friends, his bike, and public transportation. Currently in recovery and in the process of rebuilding his life back to self sufficiency, he spoke about his struggles in the past and the steps he's taken to rebuild his life. A few weeks later, Michael came in to purchase the vehicle we had prepared for him. At his car blessing, I was blessed to witness a man of his stature (over 6 feet tall) completely break down into tears at the sight of his "new" Chevy Blazer. He cried as he spoke about the upcoming opportunities that await him in this new chapter in his life. He could now be a more present grandfather, visit his kids, and get to work without relying on friends. Everyone present was privileged to be there that day!
This car blessing truly left a lasting imprint in my heart. We often take for granted the obvious in our lives, not truly understanding the importance of reliable transportation or lack thereof. Michael is the perfect success story for me to share from the heart! I welcome the opportunity to experience more car blessings, as we celebrate with each recipient their success in acquiring needed transportation.
